Rubber or polyurethane?
Covering choice does not reduce to a single “better” answer — it follows the dominant stress on your line. These four questions settle it in practice.
Short answer
Choose polyurethane when abrasion and tearing dominate; choose rubber when static electricity, heat and gentle surface behaviour matter most. Fiber-yarn and textile lines usually run rubber, while high-wear positions such as drawing and finisher favour polyurethane.

What is the dominant stress?
If material rubs and wears the surface, polyurethane; if heat and static cause the trouble, rubber leads.

What does the surface carry?
For thin film, foil and delicate fibre, a non-marking antistatic rubber surface is usually the safer choice.

What hardness is right?
Hardness (Shore A) sets the nip width. Softer gives a wider contact, harder a sharper nip; it follows operating conditions.

How does the current roller behave?
Early wear points to polyurethane; wrapping and static point to rubber. Inspecting the old roller is often the fastest route.
